HZa Stamped Kar 98a Rework

Guys,

I haven't posted anything in a long while but I came across this nice Kar 98a rework this past weekend and I had to have it. I really have a thing for reworked WWI rifles, you get three periods of history...WWI, Wiemar and WWII.

The rifle is a 1916 dated Erfurt. There are a couple of small non-matching components as is expected (e.g. front site, bayonet lug) but the receiver, barrel, both bands, bolt, trigger guard etc are all stamped matching. The bolt was blued during the final rework and is matching. The stock is very interesting, the matching serial number is stamped over the original as is seen on many 98m rifles and has the 1920 property stamp on the left side. Right below the 1920 the letters "R.E.V." are cleanly and neatly carved and there is a HZa stamp on the spine. The bolt takedown disc is also Su marked.

Any ideas on what REV stands for? It could be something as simple as the vet's initials, but it looks to clean and deliberate to be initials. It also came with the original milled muzzle cap as well.

I hope that you like it.

Steve

Here are a couple of tight shots of the HZa mark and the Su marking on the takedown disc.

Reichseisenbahn-Verwaltung (literally Imperial Railway Administration) I think. Short lived and a scarce railway stock marking. Very cool Ingolstadt rework!

Thank you Ryan, I did not know REV stood for and could not find it. Cool rifle!

I agree sweet rifle.

Why is Ingolstadt the only depot that doesnt use the first and last letter? Why Jt?
