Nice piece! The 8mm Mauser ones soldiered on for many years. I have an Israeli 8mm ammo crate from the 70ies.

That’s nice! A first for me seeing one. I still have quite a bit of Israeli 8mm surplus ammo from my MG-42 days.

I’m sure some member here will chime in and mention that they’ve got like ten of these, but in my 25 years of collecting I’ve seen precisely none of these for sale. Maybe they just fly under the radar? Regardless, cool find.

I think I've only seen a couple or so IDF rifles still in 7.92 posted over the years. Certainly not as common as the 7.62 upgrades. I also think they where the Czechoslovakian postwar made version as well rather than FN's version.

I've been running a survey for a while, based on surviving FN-Israel rifles, with the intention to find out something about serial numer ranges, variations and the like. Almost exactly one half have been converted, the others not. Ca. 2/3 of the CZ ones are in 8 mm. Also no pattern visible if certain SN blocks are prevalent or not. The statistical basis could be a bit broader but the overall picture is quite clear.
I keep on working on it!

Here is some data for your research efforts… I have one Czech/IDF and one FN/IDF K98, and both have been converted. Hope to see you publish your results here someday. Cheers!
