Gents could you tell me is this a correct bolt for a k98 rifle? The fact is that in my k98 ( mismatch rifle ) wont fit, but in my buddys k98 fit perfectly. 0f663778-5648-4950-a86f-c11d5fc95492.jpg73a2738b-8026-4261-adee-b28d9ea03a08.jpg380df584-98c8-4527-9269-18bd207eb741.jpg86871c4f-cfd6-461c-bbf1-80bae5d918b7.jpg811644d6-4075-449e-9998-c19d2db50704.jpg13072132-fbf1-48c7-8324-71fa9d806116.jpgab4118bd-5009-484a-8ff4-6e145f9a6c59.jpgb6fa46f5-f993-4e5f-bf31-2c62a1167016.jpg

It looks like a lot of mixed/scrubbed parts with some renumbering I can't identify. What I can tell you is the bolt body itself was made at Radom in Poland for Steyr production. The 2 x e/77 acceptance on the bolt root tells me this and the round gas holes mean it would have been made later in '43 or the 1st half of '44 before Radom was evacuated.

What's the story with this bolt? It won't fit your rifle but it fits your buddy's K98. What bolt came with your rifle and did it have any issues in your rifle? Does any bolt work in your rifle?

both guns made for Blank shooting. He had originally oval shaped vent holes on his bolt. So it fit perfectly. Mine is also oval shaped and works grait in my rifle. So I got this second one for cheap, but this one have roundedvent holes on it. It went in all the way in my rifle but I could not close the bolt completely.

I also have a Mauser 98k - (dot 1944 mod 98). I bought a Bolt Sleeve from Numrich. I can't screw it into the bolt. All threads are clean and undamaged on both the sleeve and inside the bolt..

Not knowing what was done to make them blank firing, the type of vent holes wouldn't effect headspace or whether the bolt will 'fit'. It was merely an easier process that saved time and tooling. No need for an oval if a simple drilled hole would work.

In the 1st picture it appears to show a good bit of contact on the side of the front locking lug. The rear lug looks like no real wear of the finish. I'd bet the bolt not fitting probably is about those front lugs in the receiver.

Oh I see ! Thanks for the answer. When the guy ships the bolt I will check it again. ( I tried this in my k98 in an event ) If thats the case I will disassemble it and try to fix it

Yep. Sounds like a headspace issue due to the locking lugs not matching up with the receiver.

I’m not sure this is a headspace problem. “I could not close the bolt completely”. Was this with an empty chamber or with a round in the chamber? If it closes on an empty chamber and not on a loaded one you have an ammunition problem. You check headspace by trying to close a healthy stripped bolt on a GO and a NO GO gage inserted in the chamber. This is not a healthy bolt. This bolt has been under a lot of duress. Some of the wear to the upper left lug is the result of using force to close the bolt somewhere along the way. My thinking is don’t spend your money on this bolt. Look for a better one. The Trader section of this Forum has plenty of them.
Why do you have to modify a K98k to fire blanks? Is it a feeding issue?

When it arrives I agreed to test it. If it still not working properly I will send it back to him. The chamber was empty when I tried in the bolt.
Well I'm from EU so having a live rifle is not that easy. It's much easier to get a blank one. Im also a member of a reenactor group.
I need a spare bolt for a second blank gun. ( witch is dont have a bolt jet )
