k98 Norwegian stock question

Does anyone know what the substance is that the Norwegians used to coat the stocks? It seems to add a brighter yellowish tint, just curious as I stare at one in the rack.

It was a clear shellac that was applied in the 1950's mainly, that has yellowed with age. A rag with acetone on it will remove it nicely.

Thanks! I like the brightness and color, but I guess it can't be replicated if it yellowed with age. I have a byf45 I put together for a high turret build, wanted one of those uber-blonde stocks for it. I guess I'll have to go through Fox and wait a year. His products are top notch, just didn't want to wait 12+ months.

I have a very late walnut semi-krieg, unmarked. Or have 5-6 stocks coming. One is a waa135 stock but more for a 43-44 byf.
