Kriegsmodell screw size

I'm looking to know a few rough dimensions of the kriegsmodell band screws and the screw for the end plate for a MO rifle.

It appears MO's screws had smaller heads compared to Brünn II . I'm looking to know the average head diameter of the 3 screws. Along with overall length. Shank diameter would also be appreciated.

I made some screws using zinc plated steel, round head #8 x 3/4" slotted wood screws, shaped in a drill press using files, which I think are close. I removed the zinc using acid. I used pictures on here and in Kriegsmodell as reference. Finally cold blued with "Vans instant gun blue" Just curious as to how close I got it - dimension wise.

Don't mind the stock. Its a junker used for testing.

I was working on a restoration Monday and took a couple pics of this screw. Head diameter measures .245"

Forgot to measure the shank.

Oh, this was a band screw.

Thank you for taking the time to do that. This really helps!

The heads on mine are ~6.20mm = .244" so almost exact!

Looks like yours is 3/4" long with a 5/8" long shank.

Do you happen to have the dimensions for the end plate screw? Looks like theyre a little shorter..I would imagine the head size is the same too.

I have the gun out and am working on it so I'll pop that screw out and take pics in the next day or two.

Ok these are two screws out of a different gun. A no letter byf45. The end plate screw is the smaller one on the left. Head diameter measures .245 on both of them. Shank dia. on the end plate screw is .120 and .165 on the upper band screw.

I have a lot more examples but most have really nice slots and these screws are so soft that I really don't want to take them out unless absolutely necessary. I'll add to this thread in the future as I take screws out if anyone thinks this is of value for reference material.

Really nice screws! Perfectly shaped, I'm impressed. Where did you get the Vans Instant Gun Blue from and is it better than Oxpho?

This is great! Thank you for the information. This really helps me and hope it helps others in the future! :happy0180:

Ive never tried Oxpho. I personally think vans is good stuff. It produces a dark blue/black blue. Goes on easy and looks a lot better than say Birchwood Casey.

I purchased a bottle of it at the Phoenix gun show a few years back. But it looks like you can order direct from them online here: http://www.vansgunblue.com/

not sure if you are still watching this thread, but if you have any other dimensions etc for these screws I would love it. I have a machine shop that would easily be able to reproduce them very easily. I have a bnz 45 missing the upper and lower ring screws. If you take them out and can get the pitch, length of threads and diameter of the unthreaded shank, etc.

Is this a original BNZ screw it came out of a sporterized BNZ45 I just got? It is about 3/4" long.IMG_3040.jpg

I have found a screw supplier in the UK that has metric wood screws in all shapes, sizes, and head type. They have several different finishes but must be ordered in lots of 100 pcs.

IMO it would be wise to order 100 of each. I will take 2 or each, at least.

I'm hoping someone could help me... So I've picked up a ce stamped 44 dated rifle which looks to be a semi-kriegsmodell.

The upper band only has a single hole in it for the spring clip and doesn't have the middle screw hole like all the pictures I've seen of other kriegsmodell rifles. There has certainly been a screw in it at some point though as there is a hole in the wood underneath that matches up. I hadn't noticed this when I bought it (stupidly) and just got back from the range. It wasn't until the barrel band launched itself down the barrel after the 5th shot I noticed it was missing.

I'm guessing this is unusual? It's also a smaller hole than those seen on other kriegs versions but I'm assuming a screw would still be put on it? Anyone have any idea what size screw I should use?

P.s. Just seen you guys need screws from the UK
If they're the same screws I need to use then I'm happy to help out and buy a batch and post you some as I'm based in the UK? Just pay postage as if I need them anyway, it makes sense.

The screws I have located are stainless steel mostly but they are available in a black finish. The black ones can be ordered in 25 pieces each. I would need to know what screw size number they are and the lengths. The screws can be ordered in 10,12,16,20, and 5 mm increments after that. They come in screw numbers 3,4,6,8,9,10,12,and 14.

These would certainly better than anything available at a hardware store.

I am going to try to find out the screw size of my BNZ45 band screws. I don’t have a sample of a front plate screw without taking them out of a rifle and I don’t want to do that.
