Ok. Thank you for the reply. I obtained quite a few when my Grandfather passed and not knowledgeable at all on old WWII guns.Welcome to the forum. That looks like a Mitchell’s Mauser. If so, it is a rifle, usually a Russian capture, that was polished, sanded, reblued and had parts renumbered to match. So it is of original German manufacture ( in most cases) but not a factory original rifle. These make good shooters but are not collectible.
Mitchell used deceptive marketing to fool less knowledgeable people that these were collectible original rifles. Shoot it and enjoy.
On the end of barrel is Ber 8mm H.B. CA 50739 which does not match the action numbers. I figured part of the gun was not original except for maybe the Action. I was seeing what it may be worth also for insurance purposes as well. Thank you for any knowledge in the matter.Look for an import mark on the barrel near the muzzle. You will probably see the initials MM, along with a city/state and some other information including caliber, which will confirm it.
I appreciate the advice. ThanksTwo books you can find used:
Buy a copy of Collecting Classic Bolt Action Military Rifles by Paul S Scarlata and read the introduction twice: "Caveat Emptor Let the buyer beware".
Buy a copy of Bolt Action Military Rifles of the World by Stuart Mowbray and Joe Puleo Read it as if a bible.
This is the only one. My question was never really answered on value. I am trying to value this rifle for insurance purposes. Ball park figure would be great. Thank youIf you have other German rifles please post pictures of each.
Collector value is $0...as a shooter, $600...Mitchell's Mausers are the Hi-Points of the Mauser world. This is the only one. My question was never really answered on value. I am trying to value this rifle for insurance purposes. Ball park figure would be great. Thank you

Exactly. And I appreciate the education on this rifleYou'll get a lot of opinions about value. But now that you have been educated about what it is, you can research it on your own and determine your own opinion about the value.
Well after being told exactly what I had, it gave me the knowledge to research it further. I seen where one sold at Auction almost identical to what I have for $1500.00. But I am definitely seeing them sell in the price range you stated as well. Like I said. I received quite a collection from my Grandmother after my Grandfather passed and didn’t know the details on this Mauser. It’s a cool piece but highly doubt I will ever use it. May put a round or two thru it and that’s about it. May sell it one day. Let someone else get use out of it. Who knows!!At our WI gun show, the bigest in the state at Fond du Lac, WI , a Mitchell with little use was marked $900 with sling, ammo pouch, and a box of Mitchell ammo. A guy took it for $835. I thought he was nuts. He wanted it asap, as a WW II reenactment rifle. Most would pay $500. But at $835. Shooters and reenactors like them because of a clean stock and all numbers are fake matched. And headspace is perfect. I would say a quick$ 600-700 within 2 hours at a larger gun show. To me its junk, but a nice shooter.
YessirHonestly there are crazy people out there who pay over 1k for these Mitchell's rifles. Since it's for insurance purposes get as much juice from the squeeze as you can.
I don’t know what else you have, but the way things are going in this country, I would grab some ammo for that thing and sit on it a while.Well after being told exactly what I had, it gave me the knowledge to research it further. I am prepared for sure. And couldn’t agree more with that Statement. Yes, definitely not in a big hurry to sell. Mainly for insurance purposes. But my guns are oiled and my powder is dryI don’t know what else you have, but the way things are going in this country, I would grab some ammo for that thing and sit on it a while.
8mm Mauser is similar to the 30.06 and packs quite a punch. You could stop a robber if he was hiding behind the refrigerator at your neighbors house.
