Dear forum members,

I'm new to the forum, hunter and marksman and have questions about a Mauser K98 that I bought a few years ago and about which I would like to learn more.

Unfortunately, I have very little experience with the K98 - I acquired the weapon simply for the reason that I liked it very much.

The weapon shoots very precisely - but since I hardly ever use the rifle, I am considering selling the carbine.

Therefore, I would be very happy to receive detailed information about my rifle - and, if possible, a rough valuation.

In addition to the photos shown here, I can also provide other images if required.

Looking forward to any information about the rifle.

Many Thanks

Leo

Hallo liebe Forenmitglieder,

Vielen Dank

Leo

The stock stamps are fake stamps. Almost all acceptance stamps on the rifle are fake as well. The bolt is force matched (not original). The scope rail is also not original to the rifle. Whoever sold the rifle to you, he did a big fraud.

I concur with Absolut. There is a lot of alterations to this rifle to make it look pretty, but most of it has been faked. The stock is a Yugoslavian capture stock and there's plenty wrong with what should be on the rifle for that maker and year.

Thank you for the fast reply and information - very helpful. I did not spend too much money for the rifle - as I wrote - I am not a collector and just bought a nice looking (and good shooting) K98 years ago. I just want to be able to give honest answers on questions to people interested in buying the gun. I believe I can put it on sale as a good looking and shooting K98 for the range and less interesting for collectors.

Start the auction from zero and you'll get the maximum possible. But please be honest and tell them that it is assembled.

Well, he followed the advise to sell from zero, but he didn't mention he was told that nearly all markings are bogus. In fact it even is described that he is unable to tell if anything was reworked.

Hey guys,
with all respect - I gave all information about the gun. I am thankful for your support and infos - but I even got different comments about the authenticity of the markings - I am not offering the rifle as an all original K98 for collectors, pre owned by a famous german sniper with 100 confirmed kills with the rifle.
I honestly wrote that some parts might be exchanged. I recommend it more for people looking for a nice and authentic K98 for the range and not as an investment.
A collector and pros like you will see what is wrong from your perspective and I believe you won't bid on it if the rifle is not interesting for you. Believe it or not - I know many people interested in assembled guns with parts from various rifles. Same in the music industry - like EVH Frankenstrat or Eric Clapton's "Black" (build from parts of 7 guitars)....
I placed my offer without any wrong promises.
What you see is what you get - if you wish more pictures: please let me know. Or feel free to visit me for a free coffee and closer look on the rifle.
I wish you all a merry Christmas
Cheers

It then would had been honest to say "I've been told by various collectors the stamps are all bogus, however others told me they think it is authentic". But by saying you don't know if anything was reworked you simply lie since you had asked here and you got opinions on it.
