When possible please try and copy the photos that this fellow member did, at either dawn, dusk or a light overcast day just for good lighting. In regards to the statement about death head marked rifle stocks (Totenkopf in German) being issued to high ranking SS men is not correct. The SS death head marking is more of a inspection/approval mark during reworks and rifle builds that the SS did. The stock is a good looking piece of walnut with a flat buttplate stock. It's possible it could be a Gewehr 98 to SS conversion stock but they usually have finger grooves. The more photos the better which will determine how much we will be able to help you
