Model 98 followed me home. Please help ID it

So i went to my buddies LGS today to pick up some ammo and lurk around. Was looking at the used rack and this mod 98 followed me home. Idk if im just slow or information is that hard to find. But i cant figure out what year or if this serial number is just super low. Please help.

The year and manufacturers code will be under whatever that thing (scope mount?) is. As for the SN, that letter just below the SN, (which isn't clear in the photo) corresponds to a number, ie; if it's a b, that means it's from the third batch of 10,000 rifles made that year.

I see said the blind man! “1940 AX” appears to be all matching.

What a shame. A 1940 ax would be very desirable in its unmolested state. It is now a shooter with no collector value. The metal may be matching but the stock looks like it may have come off of a VZ24. Enjoy it for what it is.

Yea i knew it was molested. I come from the “ak parts kit” world. Even being molested matching always give me a tingle. But for the price and finally having a non ak 8mm, i couldn't say no. I picked it up simply for a fun shooter.

I had an 03 F650gs, currently on an 04 1150gs.
