Mushy G43 trigger?

I have a G43 ac44 that I use as my primary range rifle with a ZF4 rig. It is one of the most accurate rifles I own, but the trigger is VERY mushy when compared to all if my other G43's.

Instead of a crisp break like my other G43's it just creeps forever and a day. I realize there is an adjustment screw but I know nothing about adjusting these or if it will even remedy my problem. I do know that the adjustment screws are soft and easily buggered so I haven't messed with it yet.

Any ideas?

As far as I know the screw is to adjust the 1st stage. My trigger is super light.
Id like it to be stiffer. I'll be watch on this thread.

Remove the bolt, take the receiver out of the stock and watch through the holes in the side of the receiver how trigger, sear and hammer interact. If the locking surfaces on sear or hammer are worn, trigger pull could be less crisp. The way the tiny set screw works can be observed once the receiver is out of the stock. With the hammer cocked, the set screw should be adjusted such that the trigger mechanism is on the verge of releasing the hammer when the trigger lever touches the set screw. From there, the trigger lever only needs to be pulled just a tiny little bit to release the hammer.

Just the info I was looking for! Thanks. I'll put this to the test tomorrow.

Well... Looks like the adjustment screw is peened in place on both sides... So looks like I'm just going to have to live with the way it is.

You could reduce the gap by putting a couple thin strips of sheet metal cut from a beer can between trigger lever and adjustment screw to determine if this improves the trigger pull. If it does, buy another sear lever with adjustment screw from one of those auction sites and use it to replace the original lever.
