Need Help Identifying code 42 1939 k98

i picked up a vet bring back code 42 1939 k98 all matching numbers expect top handguard only thing is i know the cupped buttplate is not right as it didn't show up till the 40's also the front sight has the grove to put a hood on which is not right either but the stock serial number matches the rest of the rifle also the X tells me its an RC but unsure i know the Germans used letters after some serials and its not a mismatching rifle like most RC and no shellac on the stock and no electro penciling possibly a German rearnsenal?? not sure what i got

Current thread - 42 code

Appears to be a rework and that in itself could be very cool.

Yes, not a Russian capture, appears to be a depot repaired bring back. Some better pics of the wrist may say which depot but I suspect Posen from what I see.

What do you mean by the wrist sorry pretty new to the k98’s

The wrist is the part of the rifle you grip with your hand when you are firing. The area circled in red in the photo. A rework should have a stamp in the bottom of the wrist right behind the trigger guard.

Could also be below the serial and on the right side of the stock. Pic showing where to look as well.

Looks like Kal4 which would be Kassel. Cool depot stamp, less common. You paid a good price for it, probably worth $15-16 if everything is right.

Tried to capture the image best I could. Not the best at reading these but this should be clear enough? depot.jpg

Looks like a 1938 Erma ordinance spare barrel on a Dohlen blank? I'd say you did well at the price. Haven't reviewed all the photos as I'm bandwidth challenged here.

Is this an X block rifle then? I noticed the X is also under the bolt flat serial number. It’s obviously not an RC X.

Yes, it’s in the x block of manufacturer. People get so caught up on Russian X stamps that when they see one, they automatically think it’s a capture.

Ya the stamp itself is far too clear to be an RC X. I think I just wanted to double check cause I think this is the first time Ive seen an X block on here lol. Obviously they are a thing, just never seen one or at least never noticed before.
