Stumped on if this rifle is some kind of rework/ depot build or a bubba or gun smith job. 1917 Gewehr 98 mauser receiver with 1920 Versailles marking. In a vz24 stock, bent bolt handle, k98 length barrel that is numbered to the receiver. Barrel has s/42k on the side and s/42g with a k above under the rear sight.

Looks to me to be SCW with a non-German stock, - having a property stamp (1920) and probable Wurttemberg antler acceptance eliminates any Turk connection. But OP does not show muzzle, to judge the cut of the shortening.... if the cut is SCW then the rifle has limited restoration potential, imo anyway.

From the first pic, although it is hard to tell, it looks like it is cut down. also that black paint looks just like the one i have with a short muzzle

Wow Lowe,
I thought those were Turk squiglies on the receiver. Thanks for straightening me out. I've never seen this on the top a receiver before .o_O:LOL::ROFLMAO:

Thanks for the replies. I have added barrel end pictures to the imgur (click it the hyperlink isn't updating). Seems like it was probably cut by the importer.

These GEW 1920 reworks were modified by importer (sadly) Barrels cut down & had an different front sight/ band added ..sold in a sporter type stock by Interarms back in the 1980's Ive been told ..seen quite a few of them they have some interesting markings on them..

That's an Interarms mod, done in the 50's. They must have bought a pretty big shipment of Gew 98/98M/98b's from somewhere that Germany dumped them in the 30's. All that I have seen are 1920 stamped 98M's or early NS era. I rescued a ZN marked receiver that had the same cut down barrel and front sight as this one. Here's another recent one: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/921864527

Yeah this is definitely what mine is. When you say you rescued one, did you replace the front sight?
