Hey all,

Figured Id post my second K98 I picked up a few weeks ago. For now will be one my last shooter grades I am getting as I finally picked up the K98 Volume 2 books so time to sit down and read them and start looking for more collectible k98s!

This is a BCD 4 K98. It is mismatched minus the receiver, sight and floor plate matching. It is a non import marked. I spent $600 on the rifle so hopefully I didn't over spend if it ends up being a dud of a rifle... I am still learning! I shot about 40 rounds so far through her and she runs great minus the occasional Sticky bolt trying to close it as well as only one time it "ate" my stripper clips and I had a fun time getting it out... :ROFLMAO:. I notice the butt plate is unmarked I probably would swap it out with a original one.

If anyone can provide anymore information on my rifle on stuff I may have missed let me know! Trying to learn as much as I can.

Thanks,
Andy

The buttplate is supposed to be unmarked on a BCD 4, and the stock doesn’t look original. I would have to see the internal serial numbers. Otherwise overall its beautiful rifle and should make a great shooter!

Yep! That I do know the stock doesn't match.. or are you referring to original in a different way? And good to know about the buttplate! Why were they unmarked? If not ill find out in the book why they were not!

Is that uncommon? And which markings are indicating that?
The Eagle 37 on the top of the receiver for starters, bcd assembled would be 749. The serial number on the barrel and firing proofs are typical of ce (JP Sauer). This serial number falls into a range when ce was building long siderail snipers using the oversize bcd 4 marked receivers, but your receiver is not one of the oversize ones.

its a mix master of sorts.. W block JPS in 1944 the bolt looks to be from a proper BCD assembled rifle. BCD for the most part was an assembler . Not the worst ive seen posted here.. As for the price I think you did OK..
Upper H band is either for an export model or early banner with pin attachment.

Wow! Thank you for the information! How interesting.. and unfortunate at the same time that it isn't a long side rail sniper! :D

Thank you for the knowledge! I was well aware going into it, it was a mix master of sorts.. but I think in todays market for $600 I didn't do too bad!

As stated, I've seen worse for more. It appears the barreled receiver and bottom metal match, as do the rear band and stock (Yugo capture). Does the bolt match itself?

I don't believe so. Should I swap out this Yugo stock with a correct one? But yeah the sight, barreled receiver and floor plate match. I am not sure about the bolt id have to look.

IMO you did just fine. Great gun for going to the range and not feeling guilty about a ding or two. If it were mine I would just leave it alone and use it. If you decide to sell it in the future it having the correct this or that on it probably won't be worth investment.

Absolutely. I figured maybe least just the stock swapped out with a correct one be as far as id go. Not obviously a investment piece but a shooter!

I thought about that too, but honestly unless you already had a more correct stock and bands or stumbled on one cheap it's not going to be worth it. The days of stock/metal sets for $250 are long gone. Also JPS numbered them right til the end so it's still going to be a stock/bolt mismatch.

I may do it just do it for the rifle even if its not exactly the cheapest (at some point of course)
