I was able to buy this one very reasonable from a gunboards member. Reminds me why I still go on there once in a blue moon. Still has the paper tag sewn inside. Also the m42 I was selling topped this one off nicely.. And a group shot of my Lufties for you all to enjoy.. Except Rob lol.

Also; researching the tunic while I purchased it. There was apparently a point when they stopped making a Luft and Heer pattern HBT tunic and just made the Heer type and sewed on luft insignia. The luft pattern HBT has the pleated chest pockets among other niceties. Where the Heer pattern has the flat pockets. Easiest way to tell without going into great detail.. Gerard had a great old thread on WAF from 08 showing the differences in cut and material types.
This tunic has the factory zig-zag type stitching viewable from the reverse.

Excuse my ignorance, but did they ever add any collar insignia to these HBT tunics? Every Luft one I have see doesn't have any.

That's a really nice tunic, I am glad it went to a good home! Love the pic over there of you tunics all together, super collection.

I have a nice Heer drill tunic, reed green, but a true drill tunic with just the two lower patch pockets...it was converted into a combat tunic (well, if you consider sewing on a breast eagle converted).

If I were a landser, as soon as spring had sprung, I would be trying to get an HBT too...marching over the Russian steppe under that hot sun in wool holds no attraction!

Ryan, Im hardly an expert but, From what I've observed is the Heer continued to sew collar insignia on their tunics and the Luftwaffe did not.

From left to right. Another reed green Heer pattern Luft issued tunic. Next, two blue luft hbt tunics One is a Heer pattern tunic the other a luft pattern. Right: two Hbt Heer tunics with collar insignia applied.

Thanks all. With like any collection it started with one. The flak Bluse I bought along with a pant load of helmets from a guy getting out. I paid at the time a reasonable price and thought of selling it a few times and almost did. Now, Im glad I didn't because obviously Ive become a Luft tunic collector among other things... All the rest coming in the last year.. Been busy.

Very nice hbt and setup. You need some shoulder straps on that pup ;) I believe the Luftwaffe HBT bluse was made at the same time as the Heer. They were different. Mine is mid 1944 I believe. Until 1944 the Luftwaffe ground units were under Luftwaffe supply and operational control. Later in 1944 they were moved into Heer and SS units and their gear, etc., supplied by those entities.

There are scant few period pics of Luftwaffe hbt combat uniforms in use. Most are in Italy, which makes sense. See below.

Thanks. I hope to get a set of reed green Green piped HBT boards at the next show. Im sure they wont be cheap. Those photos are great. The first one shows a mix or tropical and Blue/grey HBt uniforms. I think this pattern came out later when large Luft field divisions were being formed up in 44 as it only makes sense to make one uniform for all branches the only difference being the bird.

I have the set, hbt LBA bluse and matching pants. If you find those green piped hbt boards I wouldn't pay much for them as they are fake ;) I have red piped regular ole LW blue boards on mine and a black piped set in the pockets for changing the look. Those work just as good, are likely more "original" and original sets can be found for under $75.

Transferring pics I found another picture of Luft. HBT. Wounded Russian prisoner. I think he may have been a downed pilot.
