I was given this sling and I am thrilled to have it. The age and wear looks like it is right for my Gew 98, but I wanted your opinion as this is the first German sling like it I have seen. I put it on my V,C. Schilling rifle and if its not on there correctly let me know please even though I may not be able to correct it as the sling is pretty fragile.D0865425-1D0E-4E3D-B27B-704115F6E7F1.jpeg9BCCE059-A725-444A-94B0-BC02CF65BBE6.jpeg299FC2E3-6787-42B5-A383-0F1B3502D2AD.jpeg05A7E780-4678-4267-8C7B-06F306B524A1.jpegFB8FC009-ED3A-434A-9EB8-89FF029E3204.jpeg3A20BCF6-CE4F-4AE5-A6FA-375737383332.jpeg

I think it's an original sling, but for a contract Mauser, not Imperial Gew. 98 German military since it's not set up for a parade mount. Buckle and sewing aren't right.:(

Additionally, if I recall correctly, all of the WW1 slings I have owned had the detachable swivel sewn on. I did have one similar to yours but I always thought it was post war or contract. Not to say there aren’t exceptions or that mine might have been wrong!

Mine does not have the detachable end as yours. The stitches on yours are not characteristically German military. I certainly don’t know all the variations
