Was set up at a gunshow this weekend, and had a older gentleman, maybe 60-70 or so stop by with a couple bayonets he wanted to sell. One was a Remington made model 1917 bayonet with no scabbard, which has found a nice home on my Model 1917, and this nice K98 bayo. They were both pretty dirty and grimy, but they both cleaned up really nice.
Bayonet is matching 3327 E on blade, and scabbard. Blade has a 37 on back edge of blade, and W.K.C. for the maker mark. Blade looks like it was used very little, just in and out of the scabbard alot.
Frog is still soft and pliable, stitching is starting to separate on the back. Not sure if it is correct?? I know it's old, but correct or not I do not know. There is a illegible stamp on back of the frog I have tried to picture.
The Scabbard was pretty bad it had dried grease dirt, rust and god knows what on it, but a bit of Kroil, and some light scrubbing brought it back to looking great again. it has a small ding in it, but otherwise dent free just pitting from whatever corrosion that was once on it.
I'm assuming it's a 37 made bayo, and being pre war the grips are correct being wood. Not sure on how rare the make W.K.C. is in the world of K98 bayos, as it's out of my knowledge level, but I'm sure some of you nice experts can let me know some more about this piece??
