Prussian Landesgendarmerie Kar 88

I was fortunate enough to find this 1890 C.G. Haenel Suhl Kar 88 at a local show a few weeks ago. Found the way we like it… with an inch of dust on it and unmessed with. All matching except the bolt head. Issued to the Prussian Landesgendarmerie. Has the typical stylized H on the receiver. This was a show my father and I had done with Craig Brown for years and I can’t help but think he had a great big smile when this came up as this topic was somewhat of a project of his.

Nick-- Fabulous score! These aren't easy-- fewer than 10 in the study-- yours is not previously documented, so even better! My example is one of Craig's old guns.

These have a cool story to them too-- nothing like military carbines being diverted to assist police with breaking up a miner's strike.

Thanks for sharing!

Super find

Thanks guys! I was extremely happy to come across an unmolested Kar 88 in great shape let alone one with a unique unit marking and history. Interesting that not all the Landesgendarmerie issued ones have had the chamber modification. I would have expected that most/all would have received the update at some point in time based on the relatively small amount that were issued and the lengthy time in service with the Landesgendarmerie.
