Here is a first year E.u.F. Horster I picked up back in 2021. I took these pics the day I got it, before cleaning it up, getting that white crap out of the letters and numbers on the blade and wiping down with oil. After taking it indoors to disassemble to check for rust under the grips and flash guard, I got a surprise. This bayonet had been refurbished. The grips, flash guard and bayonet release stud were replacements or part of a rework There is a combination of letters and numbers linking the parts together. The last three digits (949) of serial number on blade were stamped on the grips and press release stud. 103 is stamped over 949 on the grips and stamped on the tang. 255 with a square punch hole is stamped on tang and other side of press release stud. The flash guard has it`s original serial number lined out and a capital L stamped on it which matches the capital L stamped on the tang. The other side of flash guard has what is either the assembly number (685) for bayonet 4665 or the last three numbers of a serial number from another bayonet. I lean towards the assembly number.

Yes this is a refurbishment but i personally believe that parts as locking lug and grips are period from the piece as 255 and 103 serialed, what is different is the flashguard, by refurbishment were used end of serial number to new assembly the parts.

I concur with your assessment on the locking lug and grips. Also the flash guard being a replacement part. I had wondered about stamping over the serial number (949) on grips with 103. So 103 is the refurbish assemble number. 255 is the original assemble number for the locking lug to bayonet.
Thank you Andy for your assessment and knowledge.

Gremlin, Very interesting! A very early bayonet I am sure seen alot of use so being through a rework or refurbishment I can see would be likely. Really cool! Thanks for sharing!
