Single Claw 887d Scope Can

Here are some photos of Single Claw Scope Can 887d. I think it is a Single Claw Can, because of the number/letter size and font. The d is the same as the d on a Single Claw Scope Mount. I like it and I am pretty confident in my portrayal of the cans here. Thanks for your interest and opinion if you wish to give it.

Here is how it compares to a Turret Can (BYF) based on numbering font and letter block font as well as size of letter. Some Single Claw Cans have a Capital letter as well, but the letter is always much smaller than the numbers and the letter compared to the letter on turret can. This letter d looks the same as the letter d Marholdt stamps on the Single Claw base on a Single Claw Rifle.

Are the cans otherwise identical? I like that strap on the one can, looks nice with it. Maybe post a few pics of that too. Nice!

The cans are both identical. The Single Claw Scopes fit in the cans better with the leather covers on. Prevents them from moving a lot. A turret scope will not fit in the can with leather covers on. Heres some more of the strap.

Very nice cans. I really like the metal sniper cans a lot. I want to find an un-numbered tan can when I have the extra money.

I wish we could definitively determine what is turret and what is Single claw. I would think that we need examples of cans with the matching scopes in them which I know are not common. Your theory very well good be the correct.

FYI, I like the strap also. Thanks for sharing.

Heres the matching can to Single Claw Scope in the Senich Book. Notice the numbers are the same size and font. Also, notice the smaller letter in this case is a Capital D and mine is a lower case d like stamped on the Single Claw Scope bases on rifle.

Heres the matching Scope and Can to Peter's Rifle. Notice the bigger numbers and same font in these SC cans. Also, notice the smaller letter with the numbers. Turret cans have a bigger letter that matches the size of numbers.

Long Side Rail Cans have the stamped serial number on the other side of the lid.

Heres is more discussion on cans:

Heres a couple more Single Claw Cans posted here in another thread that I'll put here. Hopefully, Nigromontanus does not care. Makes sense to me. There is no where else that has this described like this.

What is still unclear to me is, whether there was just one place where single claw scopes were mounted or if there were more. These distinct numbers shown above were clearly used just at one place. If there were more places, those made there should carry numbers in other fonts. The 650 A scope can, does it carry a scope with matching mount?

650A is just the can and no matched scope.

Original documents clearly name it the "Marholdt'sche Montage". Knowing that Mahrholdt (how it would be correctly spelled) had only one facility would make one assume it was only there where they were made.
They clearly had a lack of (letter) stamps, that is why you find such a mixture of capital and small letters on the mounts, or even the capital "P" stamped upside down for a small "d". Seeing now this also applies to scope cans, obviously with the exact same size letters as to be found on scope mount. This would make one assume they serialized the scope cans at Mahrholdt too.
