svw45 score!

Walking the MO Valley show today, I overheard two dealers discussing a rifle one of them had acquired from a walk in. They both knew it was a mauser, but neither knew exactly what. The owner said what he had in it, and I asked to see it. When I saw what it was, I told him I'd give him his money for it. He countered $25 higher, we shook hands and I hit the atm.
Hideously dirty, down to fuzz from the faux sheepskin lined gun case it was in at one point!
At first, I thought it to be a bolt mismatch, but it's not. It does look like whoever stamped the bolt worked at Steyr.
Next will be cleaning it. Any tips? I do not want to harm the phosphate!

I found a bcd 43 sporterized in a local shop a couple months ago. The sporter stock was a nice Monte Carlo stock by Bishop. I dumped that on ebay and got $118 for the stock. Then I picked up a RC stock and handguard from a gunboards member.
You planning on restoring this to original configuration?

Nice bud good score. You will probably pay more for the right stock for this rifle if your wanting to make it period correct. Just glad the original owner didn't cut the barrel on the piece.

I was amazed that it still wears it's original sight hood and handguard retainer. It's wearing a scabby Fajen stock.
The search for a MO kriegs stock has begun. I have a late dot semi kriegs corncob and other items for trade.
Considering I'm into the rifle for $225, I'm ahead of the game!

Good luck finding a 135 stamped Kriegsmodell stock. FWIW some of the a and b blocks were stocked with excess (1944) J.P. Sauer stocks.

Stocks are out there. It will cost. But at $225 into a matching action, it's likely worth it.

Drool drool!!! Great find. I would definitely get a correct stock for it if I were you, you're way ahead on $$$$ on this one.

Do these normally have un-numbered safeties? I'm not familiar with the late war stuff like this. A truly great looking gun.

I've acquired a reproduction walnut kriegsmodell stock from Leszek in Poland. I have some fitting to do, and further parts assembly. Will post when done.

Finally starting on cleaning/ restocking this rifle, but have run into a snag.
Apparently whoever dumped it into the fajen stock applied whatever finish they put on the wood, onto the steel as well.
Ballistol nor pb blaster is touching it. Any ideas? I definitely do not want to harm the phosphate!
