Thoughts on this frog please?

Hey guys,

I was offered this matching bayonet set.
I would like to get opinions on this particular frog, never seen anything quite like it, especially when talking about the cross strap. Stitching and overall construction is different too.
Sadly, These are the only photos I have available for now.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Identical markings as on Your other presented unknown web frog, so i would tend this is a same source piece, similar knob there too. material of web material is different, the ends on secure straps are made from syntetic leather (personally i would date it around 70ies). Wrongly looking handmade? stitching on backside. Sewing around the hole for hook of scabbard is not present. Bayonet looks ok to me.

Thanks Andy,

That leather piece on the cross straps end is definitely modern looking, which makes the whole frog suspicious, I’m thinking reproduction too.
The source is actually totally different, European dealer (this one), and American with the one from blue webbed rig.
I’m picking up that frog tomorrow, and as promised I will be posting detailed photos.

Thank you

In case of nearly identical knobs with flat upper area, i assume the source should be near or identical for this frog. In global world it means nothing, that one came from US and other from Europe, there are dealers that are known in Europe and in USA, same as the ends of secure strap are mashined nearly identically, only by one covered with leather.

I honestly do not see any similarities between these 2 frogs, different weave pattern, different stitching, different construction, different materials.

Actually the only similarity is the stud, everything else is different. You can’t see the end of the strap so there’s no way of telling. So adding everything up: different construction, different materials, different weave pattern, different stitching, similar stud.

As mentioned we should see details side by side with confirmed original webfrog, similar pieces are suspicious as mentioned by others too. Details of secure strap from both sides, of knob and measuring of overall pieces are important.
