This muzzle attachment is on a rifle offered for sale which looks ok otherwise. What is it?

It appears to be a nut. In other words, a thread protector. Perhaps the muzzle was threaded for a BFA (blank firing attachment), or a flash hider.

Doubt it would be threaded for a suppressor, as that would be a pretty flimsy interface for a big heavy can.

Let's see what the experts think!

Love popping in this place.
Always learning some new tidbit of knowledge.

I'll say you are. I actually have one of those muzzle guides, the guys on this forum identified it for me not long ago, and I STILL couldn't tell what that thing was!:googlie

What’s an M-48 worth?

What’s a good price for one of these post-war Yugo-48 rifles. I see them offered for $800 “buy it now” but that sounds too high. Wouldn’t $500 be more reasonable?

The post-war Yugoslavs did actually thread some of the muzzles on bolt action rifles for grenade launching attachments, mainly riot/civil disturbance munitions.

FWIW I paid $600 for mine at a LGS last year and it was in mint shape. Like brand new and right out of the Cosmoline barrel. I don’t think it’s ever been shot.
More specifically Ive seen them go from $400 to $2000 ($2k on GB!) and while I love mine - it’s the original M48 so it’s basically a brand new K98 - I never looked at why the huge price variance.
