Gentleman the VZ 24 that I posted about a few days back arrived today. This is the one I won on an auction for $178. What I would like to do if you all don't mind is over the next several days is post detailed pictures of the different assemblys and parts showing their markings.I will use this same posting. I do have the rifle completly disassembled and cleaned. There seems to be limited information on these rifles and I am hoping in this way it can be used as a reference to help others. I do know that there is different variations and this is just one. First off it does appear that the metal at one time has been refinished and the wood lightly sanded. So I am going to put that behind me and look at it for its historical value. There are no import marks and absolutely no rust or pitting. All parts seemed to be matched and the bore is excellent. I welcome all comments be it good or bad and any info. from my fellow collectors. With that said lets start off tonight with the barreled receiver. Thanks. Ed

Well obviously the barrel is off a late Kar98b, the last block known to have been made (f). What is the length of the barrel? Is it Gew.98 length?

I can't say I am especially enthusiastic over the mating, and I want to be for you Ed, but the really important thing is the length of the barrel, and whether it has depot markings somewhere.. something like this isn't typical.

From the face of the receiver ring to the face of the muzzle is 22 1/2". As I will show you later in PIC's the take down washer in the butt stock is marked, looks like SU4. Also in later PICs some parts besides having the serial number they will also have the number 337. Hope this helps. Thanks, Ed

Well that is good, pretty close to 98k length and the barrel f/s is a little comforting. How the muzzle is contoured, and the barrel steps progression are important to Gew98-98k conversions, one would assume the same applies to adaptations for the vz24?

I would hope depot markings are elsewhere too? No rush, just saying I would look for them elsewhere (when stamped here the assumption is that it accounts for the take down disc - either the part, as HZa Spandau made parts, even barrels, or the work installing the disc.)

Thank you Sir. Here are some stock and handguard pictures. The one picture of the bottom of the stock shows a very light German marking located between the rear sling swivel and butt plate. I also took a picture of the muzzle. Thanks. Ed

Can you make anything of the acceptance stamp along the bottom? This would most likely be the facility that did any work to the rifle, if you could identify the characters under the eagle, even some of them, I could see if I have anything similar (nothing comes to mind) and compare characteristics on other rifles.

The files are too large to browse through. Maybe do a higher resolution picture on the acceptance?

Looks like the number 421 but I can not be positive. Sorry. I am getting ready to take PIC"s of the stock hardware and post the PIC's. Thanks. Ed

Here we go with the stock hardware, cleaning rod & front sight protector. Ed

I've got essentially the same variant, matching and original. Front band was numbered during the modification, rear band with the last two digits, Su4 takedown disc installed, other side disc marked e/37. Triggerguard numbered, so is floorplate. Probably the same facility did the work. Mauserdad, I will say yours looks refinished though.

Yep,I think she has been refinished. I can live with that especially at the price I got it for. I am looking at the historical interest in it. No E7 on the othere take down disc.Thanks. Ed

Here are PIC's of the trigger guard and trigger assembly. Notice the 337 marking as found on the front band. Ed

Talk about a complete disassembly! Nice pics Ed. I have to admit the 337 has me stumped. The E6 barrel is cool.
