Picked this up as a buy it now on Gunbroker with a couple crappy pics, but it did show the Deutsches Reich stamp in the stock (there was actually one on both sides) and the small notch cut into the receiver..I think this one was done at the depot level, due to the line outs and the marking on the ball, and also the 5 on the butt plate...Lower swivel was changed to an imperial German type and it has an Imperial cleaning rod...Here are some pics taken quickly...Comments welcome, thanks for looking...Mike

Very nice! I do believe the 5 and B on the buttplate is a WWI depot stamp. 5 indicates the depot, but I can't find my list...

Were all of the parts numbered to the new SN?

Not on this one....Supposedly, the only parts that were renumbered on these is the bolt, barrel, jacket, and receiver per a gunboards post...The same as on mine..
 
Awesome snag! I won one on Gunbroker last year. Got it for around $550. I posted mine on Gunboards if you saw it over there. If I get a chance after work today, I'll post the pictures of mine here so we can compare them.

I think I recall yours as well as Marty (Mwt) posting your uncommon finds in a short time of each other on Gunboards Mauser forum. I think Marty was going to use his to shoot hogs as I recall....just kidding Marty! Nice finds in all cases.

The thought of shooting mine crossed my mind for about 2 seconds. Then I figured it's too rare of a rifle for me to take a risk on damaging something. Not to mention mine is missing the front sight blade.

Does anyone know if I can use a sight blade from another Mauser type as a replacement?
 
I think a standard Mauser front sight blade might fit. The OP's rifle looks to me like a different front sight blade was used, as it looks taller than the original Belgian M89 sight. That might be part of the German modification to accommodate the change in caliber, or a later addition. I would have to look at photos of Marty's rifle again to see if the front sight blade looks the same.

Haven't nailed any hogs with it yet. But I couldn't post it if I did - JPS was really annoyed that I fired it at all.

Got another misidentified GunBroker find on the way. Photos were so poor it was hard to assess condition but for $175 couldn’t resist rolling the dice.

Hint: looks like a Gew98 at a distance.

Again? I agree that at $175 it is worth a gamble. Of course you'll show us what you got right? Good luck brother!
 
Of course-no doubt what it is - he says headspace is excessive-not a problem since i handload and can dedicate brass to it. My fear is Bubba got loose with a chamber reamer.

You got nearly everything you'll ever need in those photos,rifles,BBQ,a tasty pig,just add the ale and ladies and the job is done!nice rifles cheers for sharing them.:thumbsup:
