Welcome to the forum. My first question is it a live rifle or has the barrel been plugged? Some Gewehr 98s were sold to the US public deactivated, typically with the barrel plugged and the bolt face ground at an angle. Given that the bolt is mismatched, knowing if it is a live rifle will help determine value as well as if there has been any significant damage to the wood which it doesn't look like it has from what I see.

It is live as it was brought home by the sons dad / he was in a balloon observation unit WWI
thx
the stock is fine and matching to rest of rifle with matching serial number on it just dirty
thx
steve

Well, the rifle is an intact Gewehr 98 though you'll probably want to pick up a Gewehr 98 bolt at some point since it looks like a K98k bolt is sitting in the rifle now. I think you would do well if you can pick it around $1000-$1200 given the manufacturer and condition from what I can tell. If you do pick it up, post some better pictures and do not touch anything on the rifle with anything abrasive (sandpaper, steel wool, etc.). The stock looks untouched unlike many out there, don't be the one to ruin it by sanding it.

thx AN-94 dont worry I wouldnt do anything just a light cleaning with no abrasive material // will mention that I have been collecting WWII american/german items for going on 50+ yrs. mostly uniforms/medals never got into weapons but thought since this a local person I know would not mind having this rifle to go along with his dads WWI uniform
