A sniper rifle so rare that it might start a controversy :)

Well, after reviewing all the postings I have to agree. What you have is a one off , or one of a few."

Well...it aint no one off

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=347449838

Another one that had been sportorized sold just a week or so ago for 680.00.

Notice the milled/flatened/unserialed safety.

Obviously somebody was making the damn things

Somebody start making a list

I told you guys I got it real cheap. Some yahoo took a chisel to what looks like was small ring sporter stock and chiseled away until he could force it in.

Yeah, but you completely failed to mention that it was in a sporter stock...calls into question the entire gun and your thesis....

In archeology it is called context...without knowing how something is found, and where...the context....its true value in telling a story is almost meaningless.

It's a recent Fudd addition, bad one at that. Doesn't tell us much other than if the guy who did the stock did the scope mounting and the bolt handle it would be ATI brand.

Doesn't matter...since you added the stock and bands and other parts, they are worthless in determining origin. It blows any supposition you might make as to its "German" service right up.

So all we now have to go on is a barreled action with a scope and mount...who knows what and if were added by whom and when.

If you hear hoofbeats think horses, not zebras....

Only proper stock set was put back on it. Everything else down the the capture screws are what came with the gun.

You totally failed to mention these fact about how the Rifle was when you bought it . YOU say everything down to the locking screws are the way it came ok , but as others Point out why did You withhold the way it was when You bought it .This Fact is an Important Fact . I would lean to the thought it was a Straight up VZ-24 and at some Point it had the Scope & Rings added . As I pointed out earlier post , IF indeed this was a Military Sniper Rifle the Scopes Elevation would undoubtedly have Range Marking . ALL Military Sniper Rifles I have seen have Range Markings. Snipers need a way to know how to Determine Elevation and or Windage Settings on the Scope . Best Regards

That's the whole point...you added the stock, handguard, and bands at a minimum. It CAME with a sporter stock. You have no proof that anything else other than the barreled action is original to the gun. Anyone down the line could have added any of those parts.

It still may be something special and unique, but the odds are dwindling extraordinarily fast....

The way to have gone about this with integrity would've been to show the gun as received, and explained the additions made. Not represent it as it was....its like someone showing off a ultra-rare corvette, oohh, a one off factory special....but failing to mention you got it as a chassis with an engine and you added a body...

If the stock that came with it was actually cut/inletted for the VZ24, I would have mentioned it. It came off of a different firearm and was bubba'ed to fit half assed.

As for the range dial. See 3rd picture post #75. Looks like no range marking on that SS setup

Stock is hardly important in this respect. Gun is VZ-24 as marked. We know what stocks came on VZ-24. Question has never been the stock, it has always been the scoped receiver and scope.

It came with a sporter stock that came off a different firearm, rather than being made for VZ24. Bubba got crafty with an old gun and an old sporter stock. If it was stock made for the action it would be worth mentioning.

Pics were PMed to Bigdibbs88 as i said they will. I asked him to comment on here in return. So far he hasnt.

I have not commented for several reasons. (1.) you sent me pictures that are 1"x1" (2.) none of the parts were mismatched in the pictures which was the whole premise of you sending them to me, i.e. to see the "war-time german mismatched parts" (3.) you've shown your true credibility by deceiving everyone on this rifle, so who is going to believe your great uncle somehow got this rifle from retreating germans when he was a boy? I dont remember the part of michigan history where it was invaded by Germany.....

Well....he was wrong about the rifle, but he was right about the posting header...it did start a controversy.

It just didnt end up the way he had hoped.

Lesson # 1 ...never try to BS on anything that has "EVER" had its pic posted on the internet....the world aint that big anymore.

What are you talking about. The pics i sent you were 7MB each uploaded online, so you better go check again....

Here's just ONE of them:

The parts that are mismatched, as mentioned to you, can't be seen from existing pics I have. They are internal to the gun itself and I do not have pics from when it was taken down. I noted which parts were mismatched and what the number was.

I guess you weren't paying attention that I have family living in Europe and the gun is located in Europe....

Deceiving everyone? You sure like to be dramatic. Nothing was changed other then proper stock set was put on it. The sporter stock was a bubba addition, not even correct sported stock. Are you now trying to tell me that a stock makes sniper, a sniper? It's not the scope, mounts, and the barreled received? The gun could have been found with no stock at all and still doesn't change the question of how it came to be scoped.

I like this thread, it's entertaining and informative all at once.
