1940 W.K.C. matching, help with value and scabbard

Good afternoon.

I am looking at a matching 1940 W.K.C. bayonet, scabbard (SN: 8762 N...I think) and frog. I have a couple questions.

1. I have been searching for the frog maker but can't identify it entirely due to a hole right in the middle of the stamp...ugh. It looks like "Froffer...HOLE...more words" in an arc and I think 1940 underneath.

2. The bluing looks pretty nice except at the last inch or so.

3. The ever present value. Is it worth the $175 being asked or should I haggle?

Thank you and happy new year.

Based on condition....I personally would not pay 175 for it. Has paint been removed? The frog has a hole in it too.

Maybe 150 if I needed a bayonet today. But I don't so I wouldn't buy it.

Kinda what I was thinking. I see the large group for sale on forums for $180 in better shape. I'll see if I can haggle a bit or just wait. Really no rush. Its at a local store and I like to support local businesses when I can but I'm sure I'll find the right one.

Understand the local business aspect. I feel the same. Your gut feeling is correct.

Bayonets are EVERYWHERE. Keep an eye out. Prices are pretty high on ebay because there is an international market.

Next thing you know, you have a dozen of them.

I agree look around. The drop in value recently has caused the alot of the "profit" collectors to sell.
The frog not only has a big hole in it but, I don`t think it is for an 84/98 bayonet. It`s too wide and the frog stud hole cutout is wrong.
Also the condition of the pommel and scabbard are a little rough. This bayonet appears to have been painted white at one time. I think when the white paint was removed, it removed the blue too, that is if blueing wasn`t removed before the white paint was applied. The blade is very nice though.

Thank you VERY much! I am such a Noob to the German weapon scene and I know you can get taken for a ride if not careful. These guys are good, just don't know any better either. I'll definitely keep looking!

I am looking for something that would be "correct" for my new 1940 Steyr 660. I presume anything 1940, maybe 1939. Does manufacturer matter? I know there is one Austrian manufacturer but if the Wehrmact supply system is like ours, there really is no rhyme or reason to what manufacturer ends up in the Soldat's hands. If I am wrong, please enlighten me!

Fr.Offermann & Sohn or Soehne ,Bensberg over 1940 could be there on frog but Slash is the expert here on frogs, the bayonet is WKC 40 in 8762 i range, well preserved blade, the other surface is already rusted, maybe there was a white paint, but this is already gone with blueing too. the overall price is too high for the condition probably, i would think 120 max.b.r.Andy

Thank you very much for the info on the frog. That was driving me crazy. The hole and poor quality of scabbard and frog are definitely bothersome. It is nice to know the blade finish is pretty good. Gives me some negotiation ammo. Thanks again!

Andrej is correct this is an Offermann made frog. The marking is FR. OFFERMANN & SÖHNE > BENSBERG > 1940.
