I seem to remember that Mauser had made a special production run of 98k's for sale to the public (or export to US?) in the 80's or 90's... does anyone have any information on those rifles?

seemingly beautiful, well done, but poor quality control: mine lacked of the inner rear steel tube, inside the stock, where the rear action screw must pass _ the front sight base was poorly soldered, if any, and was rotating after some use _ branded "Original Mauser", in two version: early style K98k, and Gew.98 (more pricey)_

I was on the mauser.com webpage 4 or 5 years back and they were advertising a limited production run of new full military k98's. Of course now I cant find a picture or anything by searching for it.

I remember these, and an accompanying review which was NOT particularly positive. Apparently, there was a LOT left to be desired.
