Something relatively new for me. I do not think it has been posted here previously. Snow started to fall while I was taking the pictures.

Isn't that a Pre-War Mauser Standard Modell?

I know Martin08 posted a war time Mauser Standard Modell

That is a beautiful rifle.

What's the story on the SM? Were they commercial sale guns for private citizens, or just military type organizations? Exports?

Absolutely gorgeous! Is the rear sight ramp in the white? Is that a feature on these models?

I think they were designed with export sales in mind. I always think of China and Ethiopia whenever the topic comes up. I would guess that eventually more of them stayed in Germany where they were used by various governments agencies and paramilitary organizations. Bruce's and Mike's volume one has a lot of details and pictures of these.

The rear sight ramp seems to be in the white. After reading your question I looked at some other examples and they appeared to have similar rear sight ramps. I would guess that it is original to my rifle but I am not an expert on this model.

Nice gun /// Here's one of mine /// Receiver has Portuguese Crest 1937 that was partially removed leaving ghost image //// rear sight ramp IS in the white

Nice! I'm jealous. It's much nicer than my pawn shop rescue example.

!950s - 1960s -1970s these guns were both plentiful and dirt cheap. People butchered thousands, making cheap sporters out of them....

Your Standard Modell has a lot in common with my 1937-made M1935 Brazilian Mauser banner, so 1937 is indeed a very likely date for its production date.

Magnificent rifle, congratulations !

Beautiful rifle Pisgah. Per Dave's post have you looked at the receiver at different angles and in different light for a polished off 1937?
