BNZ 44 - an SS contract?

So I understand there were two dates stamped on the Steyr receiver in 1944, the "4" and "44". From what I've read the 44 were apparently the last of an SS contract. Is my rifle below a possible ss rifle? Not sure what to look for since I'm new to this. Thanks

From what I've learned here, it seems that no BNZ rifle from 44 with a letter block was an SS rifle. So no, if I'm not mistaken, since yours is from the P block, it is not an SS contract rifle. But I could be wrong.

You are correct, SS contract rifles will not have a letter suffix.

+1. I'd like to see what it's got going on as well. Bolt root underside and barrel code as well as any other marks you can find.

The underside of the bolt handle is checkered. Also the underside of the bolt handle has some imperial stamps I believe. The first pic is a stamp on the right side of the barrel. There are only two swastikas, one on the stock behind the bolt takedown disk, and the left side of the barrel but very faint.

Trigger guard and floor plate look nice! No electro pencil but mismatched. Single e/135 TG is cool and I like the “l” Astrawerke floor plates too. This rifle is put together with all kinds of non-matching parts but it does look good and if it shoots well that’s a huge plus. Someone may have taken a barreled action and put together this gun, does it have any import markings on the barrel near the front?

If the stock and front bands are not numbered, they are most likely the original parts to the rifle (those parts would be unnumbered if original in the P block). Originally, the floorplate would have been unnumbered as well, so it's possible the rifle is just a bolt/floorplate mismatch which is not a bad place to be.

Good point Mike. I think if that's an all matching (as it appears) Kar98 bolt it's certainly got some considerable value. An unmarked FP and a more appropriate bolt can be found with some patience.

The trigger, floorplate, bolt, bands, etc are all quality non-matching milled parts. No electropenciling. The wood has not been scrubbed, and has no SNs. There are no import marks (but I’ve never seen import marks on any K98 here in Canada, I think that's a US thing). The bolt is smooth like butter and the whole action is evenly deblued.

It also shoots well. I paid $500.
