Hey Guys
New to the forum just wondering if someone can help me out here. Im thinking about buying a Mauser k98 i have limited knowledge in the proof markings and serial numbers for particular mausers.
The one i was thinking of purchasing is a DOU 1944 I'm aware that this is a Waffen-Werke Brünn AG built rifle but i not to sure about the serial numbers on the receiver need a second opinion on this thanks

the bolt is not original to your dou 44. the bolt is original to itself but the numbers should match the serial on the receiver. this is no big deal. makes the rifle worth less than a dou 44 with a matching numbers bolt.

yeah I'm ok with that. But what about the 3150 serial number on the receiver i cant find anything that tells me that number was correct for that year.

Receiver serial is fine. The serial was moved to the barrel later in 44. Not a fan of that stock. I'm fairly confident that a walnut stock isn't correct/original for a DOU 44 rifle. Also, the stock recoil lug is backward.

The stock is from a byf 42/43/44, if it has a larger WaA135 on the side. No such marking and a "byf" marking with a single WaA135 on the keel would indicated an armorer replacement stock.

thanks mate appreciate your help i'm starting to get somewhere with this rifle. My main concern is this, for a DOU 44 the known serial number range is from 3366 to 8676nn, with an estimated production run of
420,000 rifles.
Do you think this number has been messed with at all?

your gun was made tens of thousands of rifles later than 3366. it's fine

Ok thanks sorry for my ignorance but one last question the letter g or the number 9 that is under the serial number what is this?

No stupid questions here. Well almost no stupid questions. Yours is a g block. 1-9999 with no letter, then repeat with a suffix, then b and so on. Later they produced so many at some facilities (like dot) that they got into double letter suffix or 5 digit serials.
