These are a few photos of a rifle and scope I recently purchased from two auctions. The rifle has a repair depot mark on the lower portion of the stock behind the trigger guard. The scope is a bmj high turret serial 72417 and does not match gun. The rest of the parts on rifle are matching. Any opinions appreciated. Thanks.

Dave,

The scope was not all that difficult to put on the rifle. The plate on the rear mount needed a little adjustment like you had mentioned earlier. There have been a couple of rework 98k snipers surface lately. Thanks very much Dave.

nice rifle

I was watching that one close. Nice purchase. Of note, I noticed that E/Su 2 proof on the stock right off.
It's a depot stamp. I still see no evidence of any part of that rifle being reworked or repaired. Of note, I have a very late gustoff kkw that had a zf41 scope mount added. This is a known variation and shows up in a very specific serial range. I feel these rifles were sent from Gustloff to this depot for up-fit. As you can see the proof is the same. The stock also has an E/su19 on the right side. I have also seen a low turret with this same proof placement. I can only assume the rifle may of had damge to the scope itself and was repaired?? Not sure 100% but thats my best guess. Another member had a zf41k98 with the same stamps.
Maybe they delt with optic issues? Anyway here is a photo of the proof on my rifle.

You might be right. However, the mounts on the rifle looked like they had not been used much. There was not any wear on them to show that a scope had been installed and removed many times. Thanks.

Well, rebuild or repair would show with replacement parts. I see none. The rifle was used very little or just well cared for ???

Possible it had Rear Sight work and then re-dipped could explain the almost new blue be as it is
Best Regards .

Dave,

I was thinking about that, but there is a small amount solder splash under corner of mount and in one screw hole of front mount that does not show any signs of bluing. Also, the rear mount does not show any bluing over solder on front edge where the solder is prominent. That also depends on how the solder would react to the bluing. However, I do not see evidence of a double coat as far as I can tell. As far as the rear sight goes I would say the numbering and finish looks the same as rest of rifle. That is hard to say for sure. Maybe, but I know you have seen a lot of these so I would like to know what you think.

It's a little amazing, yours have the "3" bunny proof for "b" block while mine have the "2" for a "e" block.

Here is a little better photo of the bunny proof as you say. The first set of photos were my intial quick photos. Thanks for opinions/comments on the rifle. The proof looks more like a "2" in this photo.
