An Unlikely Combination

I thought this one was extremely interesting. Figured it would be worth posting just for everyone to see the stock. Second Matrosen-Division, Kiel. Stock appears to be from 1903 or earlier.

That is very interesting thanks Sam. Stock is on a Turk Gew98 but does not match the overall condition of the rifle. My thoughts the original stock was replaced along time ago by someone else. The old one must have been quite poor and he found a spare Gew98 stock for cheap. But that stock just happened to be a rare one.

That particular seller has sold MANY guns that appear to have been haphazardly put together. I have bought several items from them, to take apart, and put back together with the other items I bought.

They are not particularly what I would call knowledgeable.

But heaven forbid, do not try to tell them anything! They know far more than you....

Probably DWM/1901, generally these are progressive and 7xx would be early. Of course we have only a small sample of recordings to make such assumptions. Good luck finding a suitable early DWM to "restore" this rifle, - I use to do crazy things like that, buy a rare stock then try and do a reverse restoration... working it backward. I can't say it was very satisfying...

Paul is correct, it's hard to get the rare stock & do the reverse restoration. I picked this up years ago, I even have an extra KM G98 bolt, but never any luck on finding that early DWM G98 naval receiver/barrel.

Thanks for the great info Paul!

Mike, nice stock! What does that unit translate to?
