1945 DUO capture rig

Hello everyone,
A little early Christmas present to myself. I was able to find a really nice 1945 Czech DUO pistol capture rig. Pistol, holster, extra mag, capture paper. The pistol itself came in darn near 99% with just a little rub area on the extractor. I’m not an expert on these little DUO pistols, but I think a ‘45 made one is a little harder to find. It seems that way to me anyway. The holster is a little ragged, but named to the capture paper. The holster is a generic wartime one, probably originally for a smaller .32 caliber pistol. It was tan at one time and has that old nasty “inky” black shoe polish applied to it, which is wearing thin now. The name printed on it looks like the same black yucky shoe polish maybe. Someone did a nice job sewing a leather insert in the mag holder to hold the smaller .25 cal spare mag. The little DUO pistol fit pretty nicely in the holster, so not sure what the holster was originally for (rather what pistol it was originally intended for). When put together, it looked like the gun has been with the holster for a while by the way the leather has creased around it. That’ll be the last time the gun and spare mag will go in the holster as long as I have the rig. Inside the holster, the steel flap closure stud is exposed and I am surprised it didn’t damage the pistol’s finish. The holster actually may have saved the pistol’s finish over time, who knows?

Now to research the vet. Shouldn’t be too hard with a name like that. So far I haven’t found anything with my basic internet search that I did. I have a nice lady that used to be my neighbor that is going to help as she loves researching things like that on her spare time. And, she loves vets too as her husband is a Vietnam War vet and she worked as a clerk (not real sure on her job title) at Ft. Hood a while back. Wish I could find the bring back camera too, but that probably ended up in the trash or who knows where.

Really nice catch. I have a soft spot for these little CZ Duo's and have a couple myself. The capture papers are a huge bonus as will be the research.
I think the holster may be for a 1910 or 1934 Mauser pistol but it is mated now and should remain as such. Congratulations.

Thanks. I think you could be correct on the 1910/34 Mauser. There is an area inside the holster where a rear sight had been rubbing. Has to be from another gun because the DUO doesn’t have any sights. Just the channel imbedded in the slide.

Thanks. Yeah, it’s a really nice one. I’ve never owned one of these before, but when I saw the whole package I had to go for it.

Don’t blame you, this is the nicest 1945 I can recall seeing. Any clue if the serial range is wartime or directly post war? I remember moosedog had some great examples posted as well, neat little pistols

Mine is pretty high, but I don’t know the cut off from wartime to post war. I’ve definitely seen higher. Check out Mark’s super late DUO 1945’s from his web site www.p38guns.com :

Here’s what p38forum member Christophe replied to me as to when the Nazi DUO pistols ended:

“I've read somewhere around serial 118000. You can also check the slide legend if it went back to Opocno instead of the German Opotschno. But no doubt they will have used the existing slides with Opotschno marking.”

Mine has the “Opotschno” legend, so I think mine is safe to say it was produced under the Nazi’s.

Mark’s is in the 119XXX range and still has “Opotschno” legend as well. So, I’ll bet it’s more like after the 118XXX range. Probably Mark’s pistols are some of the last ones made under the Nazi’s.
