Kar98a price check

I know the famous Gunbroker gray blanket attracts a lot of suckers, but I was watching this particular auction closely as I'm looking to add a nice matching or bolt MM K98a in the future. Yeah - this is a very nice example but DAMN.

I'm sure the majority of nice bringbacks are late war; are pre war matching 98a's that rare? Probably answering my own question there, but 3100 shipped seems over the top.

They certainly aren’t common. That said I agree 3k is ridiculous. Seems two people got into a pissing match which happens all too often on gunbroker. I picked up a completely matching 1909 Danzig earlier this year for $900 from a good friend, albeit not as nice as this one. I feel that was cheap but I’ll let the other weigh in with a more appropriate value on these guns.

I can't comment on a reasonable market value for that specific rifle, but I do know that whatever that price is, Grey Blanket always seems to command a 20-30 percent premium over and above it.

It’s high but I honestly think that one is objectively worth around $2500 maybe a little more. A more scarce maker, not Spandau or Amberg scarce but early Danzig 98as aren’t falling out of the sky either. The condition is it’s strongest attribute. I wish I could examine the sling, if it’s an original 9 hole sling it could be worth several hundred dollars.

If it’s that Uhlan marked one I’m remembering you stole that thing for that price.

I was one of the bidders on that one. Tapped out when it got to 3k. Seems like a ridiculous price for a 98a but this one had a lot going for it. Was thinking $2000-2500.

One thing I did notice about this one was the armorer replaced magazine follower that was a unnumbered.

Even better the carbine had a depot marking on the butt plate for Danzig

How can this be, lol. This notorious seller advertised it as all matching. I'm sure it also left the Danzig arsenal 1912 with the non-serial #d handguard.

That's where bidders really have to read his auction descriptions a lot of times it will say all matching. In this case an unnumbered handguard and magazine follower which were probably replaced at the Depot.

Still a nice kar98a, but not a $3,000 kar98a
