Skull markings on a 98k

Because I have been helped here before, I have another Question now.
More than 20 ears ago, I bought a 98k at "Frankonia Jagd" (A Hunting and gun shop in germany).
They got lots of 98k, coming from russia.
No one had matching numbers and they all have been in a terrible condition.
I looked at them piece by piece, and finally I found one with the shown markings.
Because nothing is matching at this gun, I only show you the interessting markings.
What do you think abot them?

No.1 Means FWW= Frankonia Waffen Würzburg (The importer and shop)
No.2 Is the new german fire proof.

A the under side of the barrel is the civilian fire proof. An eagle over "N". Also the Numbers 4 40 (april 1940?)
The number 22 is stamped al little further of it.

Not much left from the maker, but little bit of a "R" and a "T" you can find on the right side, so it
must have been a ERFURT Gewehr 98

Looks like one of the first group of SS rifles they built on scrubbed Gew receivers. The proof date of April 1940 fits.

Yes, another real SS rifle. The "Skull 01" would have been the SS depot that took a WW1 Gewehr and converted it to a short rifle (probably in 1939 time). The "Skull SS2" would be the SS-Waffenwerkstatt in Dachau that did some type of repair to the rifle in April 1940, most likely bending (or replacing) the bolt and other items which required the rifle to receive a new Beschußstempel (Eagle N) at Suhl. While not matching, still an interesting piece. I see an "X" on the side of the receiver, may be ex Russian capture rifle.

Yes, the X may be a russian mark.
As said: All guns in the shop at this time have been imported from russia.
-Im glad, they put the new german proof marks beside the original SS marks.
Often they scratched the origal swastikas, or runes (In germany).

Frankonia the guys in my Irish hunting club get their catalogs, I visited the Berlin shop in 2004 I did not see much that interested me, but they had three floors of firearms items

3KH is the date of the modern firing proof. It translates as March (3) (19)97. The letters are always the year with A up to K. They leave out the I in this code for being too similar with J (A = 0, B = 1, C = 2, D = 3, E = 4, F = 5, G = 6, H = 7, J = 8, K = 9), so that way you can read the KH as 97 what means 1997. It is a bit funny considering that the commercial proof from this period should still be valid and therefore this gun would not have needed a re-proof.

Finally, take special note of the five pointed Star mark above the FWW logo. That one can be found quite often with SS conversions. In fact nearly all SS conversions that I am aware of have any symbols or letters on the barrel step in this place, it is believed that this is in any context to a certain company.

Awesome if the rifles serial is "only" 48. With SS rifles you can often see very low serial numbers.

Would you mind sharing a few more pictures of this rifle? I'd be keen to see with which stock you got it. Thanks!

Wait, I thought maybe the 5 pointed star meant French rework ? .....Back to the books I need to go.
