wz29 Find

I bought this from a friend recently. It's of tangential interest to my normal collecting but thought it would be neat to have one.

The rifle is 1933 dated and matching except the bolt. No import mark. The interesting thing to me is that the m/m bolt is a matching Gustloff bolt with a pretty similar metal condition. No way to verify (no signs of German use- rebarrel, etc..), but I'd hazard a guess this may have been intermingled with some k98k on a capture pile and a random bolt grabbed. Wishful thinking maybe, but a neat rifle nonetheless.

First Wz29 I have seen that have the magazine/trigger assembly parts numbered. I had always thought Poland stopped doing that when they switched model designations.

I know a good bit of the G29/40s they made out of the remaining parts went to kriegsmarine, etc.. but not sure where the captured complete polish rifles were sent. I would assume rear echelon units or Volkssturm, but these aren't a primary focus for me so I'll let someone more knowledgeable answer.

I've seen others like this-- there is one on GI right now. Also a 1933.

Like Chrisftk noted, just about any second- and third-tier unit. A lot of Beutewaffen shows up in training contexts and in use with paramilitary-ish orgs like the RAD.
