Mod. 71 Spandau 1876 Dated

We have just recently settled into a new house and I have been unboxing my collection that has been stored for a considerable amount of time. My past work schedule, being as it was, never allowed me a chance to properly photograph many of my pieces. Now that I am retired, I will try to learn more about them and share what I have acquired. I have been out of the "Collecting" loop for a few years.
This piece is all matching with no unit marking. Seems to have seen very little use. Thoughts are appreciated

I added to research thread here and linked to this thread, - as the trends show, Spandau 71's are pretty elusive these days! Only three 1876's so far and not a great number in total, but the survival rate is probably behind this scarcity.

Nice rifle for sure. Most non-Amberg makers are quite tricky to find, with some bordering on next to impossible. I've completed the arsenal set and 3 out of 7 private makers, but it hasn't been easy.

The condition of these is also usually a bit rough. These were ridden hard and put away wet in many cases. You'll see some of these that clearly went to other parts of the world. These did see rear echelon service in World War I-- you'll sometimes see ones where they took the brass trigger guards off and replace them with steel ones so that the brass could be melted down for shell casings. My Spandau and Erfurt have those.

Yours is top shelf for sure. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to seeing what else you pull out for new photos!

Thank you gentleman! My collection spans a great range and as such I don’t have a large body of specific knowledge of each time period. I have tried to aqiuire an example of most models of German military rifles from Mauser’s earliest through Late WW2. I look forward to your comments. Paul, I’ve also added data to the Gew 91 and the Gew 71/84 threads. I don’t know if you had seen them.

B, If you contributed a rifle that did not make its way to the forum trends projects, do point them out,- I am sure I overlooked several (if not many - I know a G91 was recently missed, but plan on backfilling it) but I have less time online these days with our business and increasing decrepitude! (Plus I have been spending more time on my personal trends projects rather than the forum projects, mostly due to the limited access that comes from using a laptop these days, but also a little dissatisfaction with some of the research threads... I may cut some loose, especially the G88 thread which I expected some progress on, but the "stigma" of being the stepchild of German rifle collecting seems to retard much progress)
