Realized I missed my Sauers when rephotographing, so here’s the 1915.

Rough and has some mismatched parts, but it’s got a very cool early beech stock.

That’s a great first year gun. Thank you for sharing it. I never get tired of the fanatical attention to detail. Also never realized the knurled rear sight adjuster was serialized underneath. What stories it could tell!

Any JP Sauer Gew98 is always worth seeing no matter the condition Cyprus! My 1917 JP Sauer Gew98 rebuild should be here sometime next week. Of course everybody here knows I'll do an awesome photo op!

Thanks, everyone! It is definitely one of my favorites: even with the worn condition it is still very original.

That's a good one! With only the floorplate & follower m/m, there's a good likelihood it sported an extended mag at one time.
Mike, i bet you're right! Would love to find a mag in similar condition to put on it.

Saw that you snagged that one, Jordian; looking forward to the full report!

Thanks Cyprus paid more then I wanted to for it, but it was a very interesting JP Sauer rebuild. Literally a brand new rifle assembled out of parts at a depot center.

Will be much more interesting once I get it broken down to see how many armorers parts or spares were used in this assembled rifle. Not to mentioned I really missed owning a JP Sauer Gewehr!

Issues or no, a 15 JPS is a 15 JPS. Having found one myself, I know just how hard these can be. Glad you have this one buddy! The early beech stock might be the coolest feature.

A very important gun. A 1915 consortium and a beech stock. This one really highlights why forensic study is important. Production procedures always differ from formal documentation.

The beech stock is the most interesting feature, I think the only one known this early, though this is the last block for 1915 and probably 1916 in assembly, but still, beech is scarce with most makers in 1916, especially among the more formal firms and arsenals who had inventory to work through... The start-ups seem to introduce earlier too...
