Here's another Mike rifle and a pretty tough one to find this original and in this condition. I know Mike posted previously, but thought I would include updates and the barrel code given the dearth of examples from this year.

The buttplate has a Mainz (6) stamp, though my only thought on the work done would be the wartime trigger modifications for additional tolerance/better grease adherence to compensate for muddy conditions. I didn't remove the trigger to check though.

Here's the data sheet:

Receiver 2057 c
Barrel 2057 c (BI 9227)
Front Sight 57
Rear Sight Leaf: 57
Sight Slider 57
Ejector Box 57
Trigger Sear 57
Front Barrel Band 57
Rear Barrel Band 57
Trigger Guard 2057
Trigger Guard Screws 57, 57
Floor Plate 57
Follower 57
Stock 2057
Handguard 2057
Buttplate 2057 c (Depot 6)
Bayonet Lug 57
Cleaning Rod 57
Bolt body: 2057 c
Safety: 57
Cocking Piece: 57
Bolt shroud: 57
Firing Pin: 57
Extractor 57

Damn, that's a sweet rifle, congrats on a great addition! The only thing that would make it cooler would be a unit mark on that disc!

Wow Chris! Keep ‘em coming. Is that a duffel cut repair by the rear band or an armor repair? Expertly executed. Could a better example be had?

Thanks! Yeah, i'm a little surprised this one didn't have a mark, but several of my pre-war ones dont. Funny though my 12 and 13 Spandaus are marked.. go figure.

Thanks Rick-- good eye-- it's a wood repairby an armorer. Pretty expertly done too. You only see it up close.

Another stunner from Mike…. Beautiful stock on that one
Another fantastic one!
Thanks gents! I'm glad you guys got some nice stuff from him too. You are both great caretakers.

Absolutely beautiful glad you got this one! Very happy to see the barrel acceptance and code on a “forgotten era” Gew 98. Always good to see such an original gun disassembled.

Cyrus needs to move this thread to the Imperial Picture Reference Section to replace mine. Your pics & writeups far surpass mine. Don't worry, it won't bother me the least bit. This also applies to the gewehr's Cyrus & Sam acquired from me. Thanks!

Thanks Mike-- you are too kind, I appreciate you letting these go, they will be well cared for.

Fantastic pick up and great photos: i've said it before but i'm loving the new set up. It's great to be able to get good clear photos of acceptance from the murky prewar years. It put it in the reference!

Done! and thank you, Mike! However, sometimes i want to keep the original discussion, either for information or sentimental reasons, so here's the link to the original discussion: https://www.k98kforum.com/showthread.php?11395-1911-Spandau-Gew98
