Gewehr 98 Erfurt Amberg 1916 2926

Firs of all, I wanted to thank all the members who shared detailed pictures and their knowledge here. I wouldn’t been able to even identify this rifle without the picture reference.
So I found this Sterngewehr earlier this year and traded one of my K98 for it. The rifle has a poorly repaired duffle cut. Lower band and HG are non-numbered. All the other parts are matching.
I am very tempted to get the “duffle cut repair” repaired but not sure whether that’s a great idea. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Also, if I miss something and you want to see it, please let me know!

Great pick-up. These Erfurt Sterngewehre take some interesting forms.. I've got 3-- one with a Spandau receiver, one with an Erfurt receiver and one with a strange, rounded erfurt receiver, likely from an unknown subcontract. You did well with this-- hope Hale doesn't start begging you too bad for it!

That’s a wonderful Erfurt Sterngewehr! This one is pretty flush with Amberg parts, the magazine and floorplate were manufactured by Amberg as well.

Rounded Erfurt receiver? That sounds interesting. What do you mean by a rounded receiver?

Note the rounded edges. These show up occasionally in other Erfurt * rifles. No indication on the bottom as to the manufacturer.

It was just another source of them (like Amberg, Spandau, Pieper, S&H, Simson, etc..,)

Personally I don't fix duffel cuts unless they are really loose.

I actually went pretty hard after it when it was on Gunbroker, i was afraid it would end up hidden in some lair, but i'm so glad it made its way to someone who appreciates the value of photographing these for study.
