Danzig 1914 with Weissenburger Action Cover

This was my second to last pick up of the year, and ended up being a random BIN on gunbroker. I've had it for several months now and I'm just getting around to posting it. All things considered, I'm pleased, the rifle was close to free with what the accessories are worth. It ended up coming with a Weissenburger action cover and a great second pattern sling. The gun itself has been "improved" in the typical fashion, but I'm ok with that due to its scarcity and that it was the last one I needed to have all the war years from Danzig. I also really like the depot 15 bolt renumber. The gun is matching less the bands, small bolt parts, and obviously force matched bolt.

Nice pickup Sam!! I believe I remember seeing this on Gunbroker but only after it had sold. I am glad you/someone from the forum was able to pick it up! As I remember, it was a good deal, especially with the cover. Even better that it helped to round out your Danzig collection Thanks for sharing!

It's good to see such an original early war Danzig. The acceptance looks like the c/H that shows up on Danzig throughout the war, and switched from Fraktur to a Latin font in 1916. It's also nice to the the wavy 2, which almost looks like Amberg's font.

A stunner for sure, especially together like this. Danzig/14's, like almost all 1914's are damn scarce, - this is the last assured block they made this year. Two other b-blocks known, 6594/b who was nice and owned by MauserBill plus the known high 7808/b which is only a detailed report, sporter essentially. A few others in great leaps from the b-block but reports only, except a really eccentric beast that was fiddled with during the war, the suffix is counterstamped, looks a g or y block overstrike... MauserBill/s has the same RR pattern.

Thanks, Cyrus! I enjoy the wavy 2 as well. It’s always so evident on the stocks. They seemed to have dropped it by the end with the exception of their stock numbering.

Thank you, Paul! I appreciate the great info as always. Happy to have been fortunate enough to add one of less pedestrian 1914s. Up to this point I’ve only been able to add Mauser/14 and Spandau/14. These are a lot like the 1918 dates for me.
