I bought the biography of von der Heydte (Muss ich sterben, will ich fallen) for my research about paratroopers in southern France. When I receive it, I will check if he mentions the camouflage.

Amazing helmet Ham, I was working towards a M 38 but was side tracked by some great Japanese Blades I could just not leave on the table..... Not to overstate the obvious but we are going on the camo pattern to be linked to FJR 6 and the link provided is to confirm that?

GF, these are generally accepted as FJR6 pattern from period pics and direct bringbacks from Normandy. I have another German M.35 Lw camo which is about identical with wire on it. If the pattern was on a M.38 it would be called a FJR6. The article is just more info.

Yes, I looked up in the career summaries. There ´ s a young Lt Franzen transfered to the Fallschirm Armee Oberkommando in Feb 1945.
Can’t say if it belonged to him, but that’s a possibility among others.

Really nice helmet, Thanks for posting the link to the article. I have three more pieces I need to add.

I have checked with my resources; here are two possible matches both KIA in Normandy. Ancestry has no hits, but without a name it is quite hard.

The one that Guillaume suggests would be very unlikely as the Regiment only camouflaged their helmets in this pattern prior to the Normandy invasion. Then being a late war replacement into FJR6 would be unlikely to receive such a helmet.
