For full disclosure I am an auctioneer and we have an FFL. I will not post auction info here, but I keep coming across amazing helpful info on this sight and am learning so much from all of you! I am working on a collection with over 150 Mausers- most are K98k's. And there are some I can't clearly identify (imagine that!). So far the old google search has not helped on this one. Marked on the receiver: "eagle / (triangle?) / bcd/ar / 42". The triangle mark is also on the barrel along with "24 G1". It does have a "FED ORD INC SEM CA" import mark and the serial is 6226 C. I know the arsenal is unusual with the dual mark for Wilhelm-Gustloff-Werke, Weimar / Mauser-Werke AG, Berlin.

Any help on the triangle mark would be great. I found 1 reference to possibly Iraqi but there was not a photo to compare. Thank you in advance :)

So you're learning from this board, asking for help identifying rifles that you are going to be selling commercially as part of your business, and you aren't even going to do us the courtesy of linking the auction so board members can take a look and see if there's anything they might be willing to buy?

Not only is this discourteous, it's stupid. If nothing else you might actually drum up extra eyes for your auction.

But seriously "help me identify this rifle so I can sell it for my business, but not to you" is not a great look.

It’s against forum rules to post links to ongoing auctions, just to be fair.

Fair enough, but something like "yeah we're selling these rifles at <website> on 6/1/25" would be appreciated.

I dunno, I'm just getting annoyed at being mined for someone else's commercial purposes.

edit: Maybe it's just me, but this is something that's been rankling me for a while. I'm usually the first guy to fly the flag that spreading information far and wide helps educate the public and prevent scammer BS, but it leaves a sour taste in my mouth when people running a business are asking a community to do their jobs for them. It amounts to begging unpaid contract labor.

The reference books to answer these questions are both available and well within the margins of a business turning over a 150+ gun collection focused mostly on one type.

I tend to agree. as much fun as it is to play “Carnac the Magnificent” & divine the identity of obscure Mauser rifles, to do the copy writing for someone else’s business without getting compensation seems unwise. No offer to donate towards the K98k Forum website, or tip those who put the time in to the upcoming auctions has been made, or to offer any items here at collectors rates. I wonder how many rifles there actually are, the title says “250” but the text of the message says “over 150”, or perhaps this roach is the only one? I find it curious that this is the one help was needed with, why start at the bottom?

It’s not being against the idea of capitalism, but of taking advantage of others generosity for self interest.

Ill have to agree with whats been said above. People coming on here asking for information, getting their answers and then leaving to never be seen again rubs me the wrong way. This is a collectors forum - Not a Quora.

We get absolutely NOTHING out of answering your questions. If youre going to exploit this forum for information atleast offer something in return, a discount on buyer’s premium (which you auction houses absolutely rape the online buyers on) free shipping, etc.

An auction house dealing in firearms should have a competent historian capable of doing the research & valuation in-house - in my not so humble opinion.

Other boards don't let you post sales. I see it from your point of view as well. Did not mean to stir things up. If it is ok to post I will. I could not find anything in the forum rules about it. Can someone let me know either way?
Post war Czech then Iraqi use.
Thank you. So the triangle is an Iraqi proof mark? Does it have a specific name?

Not trying to be discourteous- actually the opposite. Many other boards we are on do not let you post any sale information. I could not find anything in the forum rules. Truly sorry to offend you. If someone could let me know if I can post sale info I will. Thank you.

We have sold 1,000's of firearms over 15 years and do regular military auctions. We have spent several weeks well over 80 man hours in research, cataloging and photographing already, and yes we have several books we have used, many websites, and use previous knowledge. There are few things that have not been easy to find. We are trying to be very thorough and report all marks on every rifle which as you know there are many. We want to accurately represent our items so buyers know what they are getting. I don't believe asking a few questions is "contract labor".

As a business, of course, boards/forums would be great advertising. But that is not allowed. Sometimes we get backlash and leave the board, sometimes we get ignored, and other times we get some great answers.

The Iraqi mark is called a Jeem...

We are still pulling rifles out of the house so we don't have the exact number yet. I hardly believe telling me what 1 mark is is doing my job for me. Who said I have nothing to offer back to the site? We stay active on many forums.

You can post a link to your auction site at least, just not individual pieces as Bruce the site owner above mentioned in post #7.
