Gewehr 98 WMO 1917 4243n Ex-Scharfschutze

Congrats on picking up this gorgeous ex sniper! I was watching the listing which looked good but your photos truly show what wonderful shape this rifle is in. The broken screws are going to be annoying to deal (hopefully, they're fairly soft and easy to drill out) with but I can't wait to see this one completely restored!

Appreciate the info on the Gl V being exclusive to Danzig and Amberg, didn't realize that! If you plan to shoot it, it'd be cool too to see what kind of accuracy you can get out of this rifle once it's back to glory :)

Definitely! The bore is as nice as the rest, can’t wait to put some rounds on paper after it’s done.
Cyrus, excellent acquisition! Amazing that it still had its original rod.
Thanks, Mike! I was pretty shocked by the rod, probably the only factory rod I have, and it’s on a Turk.

Can't say much that other haven't already said, it's a hell of a nice rifle. I do like how we can see a bit into how the mounts were attached. Not new information, exactly, but a view of that area that you usually don't see.

WOW, what a great pickup Cyrus. I love the stock - looks like scrub walnut that held up exceptionally well. I also find the lack of a bolt relief cut rather neat for a sniper. Was kind of the Turks to actually maintain this one as well as not play musical chairs with all the small parts like they did with all of the infantry rifles.

A good thread on this series of weapons.
