FG42G - 10 round magazine

Hello. I've been searching here for a long time, but I don't think I've found a clear answer. I'm wondering if there were 10-round magazines for the FG42-G rifles. Are these magazines for the G model nonsense, or did they really exist in some specimens? Thank you for the answer.

Very interesting... I have no information to add... but 10 rounds for a fully automatic capable weapon seems a bit too small to be practical in combat situations... possibly, a factory test environment makes more sense. Easier to fit into a machine rest fixture etc. Do you have any background on the source/circumstances of the picture?

Both ten-round and twenty-round magazines were used for the FG42-E rifles. I read somewhere that ten-round magazines were to be used during parachute jumps, so that the weapon was immediately ready for use, but at the same time the risk of getting caught in parachute cords, etc. was reduced. For the later FG42-G model, it is a mystery to me. I don't think I have found any original 10-round magazine for the G model in photos, only replicas. I can't tell if the attached photo is an original magazine or a replica.

Here's a period photo where I'm not sure if the rifle has a 10- or 20-round magazine.

I haven't seen that image before, does look like a 20 round mag, though.

*There's lot going on outside that frame.
The Tommy looks very relaxed approaching a Kubelwagen with an armed FJ standing so close.

The explanation that the 10 round mag was created for parachute drops makes the most sense - I saw them (in print) for the E type, but have not encountered one (in the open or print before) made for the F or G type FG42 so that is a cool find!

Well, you posted a photo of a FG42-G with a 10 round mag. Thats a G type mag with the stop-lugs pressed into it, too.

So it looks like they existed! Probably produced on a very limited basis.
