Almost looks like a VFW marking perhaps? I’ve seen similar markings on 1917 Enfields and 1903s.

I don’t unfortunately ( I am now very far away from the seller) I couldn’t determine if a third band is off. I will reach out to him to see if there’s any assembly numbers on the bolt though.

Had the rifle in hand today but didn’t purchase under due to concerns about back half of bolt but figured I’d post here.

Not buying the rifle thru the mail fwiw. Will be inspecting in person later in the week and will take photos in hand.

Thanks Hambone. Photos are unfortunately poor for sure. Is there anything in particular giving you pause about the bolt? This was of concern to me also. The back half looks suspect moreso to me than the handle

Looking at possibly buying a very similar rifle (serial 402) with the same barrel top acceptance. Rifle in question is built on a 1916 Spandau Gew 98 receiver and has three digits on front band but only two digits on rear band oddly. Just curious rear band is numbered on this one. Rear sight is...

Speaking of CB, I was in Boston last month and stopped by the museum he was the former curator of (First Corps of Cadets) they had a little display devoted to him. The sale of his collection allowed them to employ a curator indefinitely.

A couple 71-84 to report: Danzig 1887 dated. Serial# 3125q. Unit mark: 50.R.E.3.148. WMO 1887 Dated Serial# 8136A Unit mark: 119.R.E.2.48

Glad this one went to a good home. Nice rifle.
