    Question - Militaria from Germany

I buy stuff from Germany all the time. Never had a problem.

    Black vs Brown Holsters

Yep. Keep in mind that control of the Ordnungpolizei was taken away from Reichsmarschall Göring and given to Reichsführer Himmler, so it's possible that the Hi Power could have been carried by a Gendarmerie.

    Black vs Brown Holsters

Yep. I have some late 1930s original K98k ammo pouches that are brown leather on the back, but died black on the front, top, bottom, and sides. I understand that when low boots were issued late war, they were brown. Soldaten often dyed them black after issue.

    Black vs Brown Holsters

Not sure where you would find an original belt for that, but here's a decent repro officer's belt: You can get it here: http://www.hessenantique.com/Officer_s_Leather_Belt_p/2118590.htm I bought a black version for my reenacting impression and I'm happy with it. The buckle has the pebbled...

    Black vs Brown Holsters

The Gendarmerie continued to wear brown leather until at least the end of the war. BTW, my dad carried an FN Hi-Power that looked exactly like that when he was a cop in Chicago. When he stared carrying it in the late '60s, he was a trail blazer because the overwhelming majority of his fellow...

    Black vs Brown Holsters

I don't know about military use of brown holsters like this, but certain divisions of the Nazi era German federalized Ordnungspolizei (Order Police) used them. One division, the Gendarmerie, wore brown leather belts, boots, shoulder straps, cap visors and chin straps, and holsters. They were...

    Walther P1; Bw Bundeswehr marked

Those P1s are nice. I got an ex police P1 about four years ago. It was made in 1961 and it had a slide marked "P38." Sadly, when I took it out to the range and put a couple mags worth through it, I noticed that there were hairline cracks on each side of the slide. I had to put a new...

    A practical question - a comfortable sling for a K98?

Of course. Do what the German soldiers did. Put the rifle on your back with the sling across your chest. Muzzle up or down... It works.

    A practical question - a comfortable sling for a K98?

My repro sling works just fine. I have no trouble with it.

    Yugo?

Mitchell's intentionally misleads people in their ads. I've seen them represent postwar Yugo M48 Mausers as "K98 Mausers." An M48 looks similar to a K98k, but it is NOT a WW2 German Mauser as the ad implies. Mitchell's is also notorious for taking WW2 K98k Russian captures and reworking them...

    Mess Silverware

The photo is kind of blurry, but it looks like the handles are stamped, "II I. R. 86"

    Military medals

I'm not a medal collector, but I see a lot of medals on these two sites: Bunker Militaria Militärische Antiquitäten Emig I periodically buy other types of militaria from these outfits and everything they sold me was as advertised and real, but then, the stuff I collect is probably not going...

Opinions on Helmets Requested, Thanks To All Who Reply

Looked like an MP40 sub machine gun. My unit was pretty strict about gas mask canisters. You absolutely must have a real one because the fluted sides of the repro canisters were too shallow. Fortunately, real ones are fairly easy to find at a reasonable price. You also couldn't have a...

You will have at least a few real veterans in every unit. Tactical events are much like war games exercises in the real military. The side that "wins" is the one that employs the best tactics. Public events are more like staged demonstrations. Kind of like a play put on for public...
