...after 1945 Mauser rifle, but no K98

...forgive my question, but a Mauser 86 SR is also a post-1945 Mauser rifle, and since I'm unfortunately from Germany, I'm curious if there's a collector's market for it in America?
Best regards
Lanz

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any listings on Gunbroker. So, it seems there isn't much demand for a Mauser 86SR in the US.
Thanks
Lanz

it may be that if it wasn’t imported here, & no US military/police agencies used it, that it is simply not known here, thus no demand. Could be also that it falls into the ‘grey zone’ where it isn’t old enough to be ‘historic’ & not new enough to be the ‘next best thing’. I couldn’t find anything on the net without having to create accounts or sign in a site.

on 98k site guy was aksing about a Mauser 86 rifle and just wanted to say in my original Sporter book is whole story on this model as well as others made in that period. Jon

Thank you for the tip, but where can I find this information?

Thank you so much
Lanz

Mauser: Original Oberndorf Sporting Rifles by Jon Speed, Walter Schmid, and Reiner Herrmann from Collector Grade Publications. I'll throw up a very quick and crude picture of the cover in a moment (edited into this post so check back if you see this before I get it up)

Jon sent along pictures of his book so that you can read the pertinent section. Thanks Jon for sharing!

Many thanks to Jon and to you for the information. I probably have a version that's not shown in the pictures. My rifle has a different laminated wood stock than the one in the pictures. My laminated wood stock looks like the fiberglass stock shown, but it's made of wood. My scope mount, however, looks exactly like the one shown in the book. I'll take pictures tomorrow and post them here.
Best regards from Germany and thank you very much.

Attached pictures of my Mauser 86 SR that is a former Carabinieri sniper rifle (in particular those were used by "gruppo di intervento speciale"). It came without scope - I put in the same scope Italians used on it. As visible from the sticker these also were sometimes used with Simrad NV clip on. Somewhere I should still have one or two pictures of these in usage. The one shown is the rarer variant which has kind of "trigger control" plug so that the commander could see if the trigger is pressed or not.

Found the pictures of Mauser 86 SR in Carabinieri "GIS" usage, but had to rework them to make them work on the forum, plus played a bit around to make details better visisble and larger resolution. Note the clip on for the Simrad on the Swarovski 3-12x50 P scopes. The second and last picture shows laminate stocks with camo wrap. Note in the second picture that mentioned "trigger control" device sitting next to the sniper. Guys in the last picture have the Swarovski reticle illumination added too.

Sorry for triple posts - Jon, if you are reading here: I own Mauser M94 (respectively) Mod. 94 on the barrel) in .300 Win Mag that is also configured as sniper rifle. It is very similar to the SR94 that you picture, but also a bit different. According to the original invoice from the gun dealer who sold this rifle back in 1999 it came from the Mauser Show Room. Factory target describes it as SR94. So actually there is another version of the SR94, other than the two in your book.

Edit, and speaking of that, I also have an original Mauser 66SP with a really fat thread on silencer to an unusual short barrel. Also came from GIS in Italy..

Thank you so much for the great pictures, and please excuse the long wait for my photos; I've been sick and had to stay quiet.
Here are three photos of my Mauser 86SR with a Schmidt & Bender rifle scope and the original mount as the rifle was delivered by Mauser in 1986.

Your rifle appears identical to mine, other than the laminate stock had not been painted (and of course different scope model).

What prices do these Mauser 86SR rifles sell for in America? In Germany, the supply is so tiny that any kind of pricing is very difficult.
