I have an inherited Walther Rifle. I need a price and information about it's markings. It has a brass plate on the stock- Skitreffen der thuringischen Forstheamtenu Februar 1939 Oberhof and many other number markings. I can send pictures. It has a leather shoulder strap. My German is bad but I think it belonged to a ski officer in the forest. Thank you.

you can send me photos if you like. I can post them for you. Private message me.

Sounds like a presentation or award rifle for a shooting contest.

It does NOT say sport model. It has front and back sites, it has decorated stock, original strap. a bird type German emblem, "N", M Fr O, the number 75 on the rear sites. oLc on the strap.
It is a very pretty gun and I keep it in a good case.

Thank you. Sorry I accidently erased your word "Walther" just wrote in gun. I'm new at this replying. Can you tell me anything about it or a fair price for it. Is it a presentation gun.

Thank you. Can you help with the pricing? Is it a presentation gun?
this is whats called a Walther model 1 it was a very early self loading repeater. They also made a model 2 which has better sights and was longer I think ? But regardless that's what it is.

Interesting as it can be used as a bolt action or semi auto.

I can use google translate or we have some german folks here that can probably read it.

Value is a bit tough as these don't show up often but these aren't military its a commercial rifle. I was probably given as a Prize at a shooting contest in Zella Mellis

Ski Meeting Thuringian forestry officials and forestry workers. February 1939 Oberhof.
Thank you for your reply. Can you give more info and pricing range. Was it used to guard or police the forestry region? Did this belong to an officer?

We should wait until a member with more knowledge about this type of rifle and what it worth. I would tend to agree with the opinion that it was awarded to one of the participants of the ski meet for whatever reason, being it for a shooting contest, a skiing contest. chopping wood or for just being at the ski meet.
There may be more to research on the ski meetings.

Thank you for your time and message. Any more information will be greatly appreciated.

This post would probably get more views if it were on the Small Bore Training Rifles and etc. subforum. If a mod sees this thread, would you please move it to the proper spot.

This reproduction of the factory booklet will probably give you more solid information about the Walther Modell I and Modell II Semi-Automatic Carbines than anything you're likely to find on the web:

Your rifle is missing its detachable magazine. They can be difficult to find and rather pricey, so that will negatively affect the value.. On the other hand, that brass plaque will definitely add some value. If the bore is bright and there are no mechanical issues, I'd think $700 would be a fair asking price. If the original magazine happened to turn up, you could probably add about $200-$300 to that.
